A plush and polished decidedly upscale cocktail bar serving classically inspired cocktails, gourmet gastropub fare and vintage/rare spirits. The plush interior has something of a vintage gentlemen's club feel with polished dark wood, tope green walls and vintage lamps. The red wood parquet topped bar counter runs the length of the long narrow room providing plentiful comfortable bar stools. Billy Sunday feels refined and upmarket. The back bar bristles with vintage bottles, including a bewildering collection of vintage Italian Fernet.
Like the interior, the cocktails here are classically led and boozy in style. They are lovingly crafted and well executed. If here late, we suggest finishing with the "Shift Drink" - basically a Boilermaker comprising 16oz Metropolitan Brewing German style lager and 2oz Elijah Craig 12 Year Old.
Bar snacks include the likes of: marinated octopus, steak tartare, rabbit pot pie and chicken liver.
Incidentally, Billy Sunday is named after William Ashley 'Billy' Sunday (1862-1935), a popular outfielder in baseball's National League during the 1880s but later went on to became the most influential American evangelist in the early 20th century. He was strong supporter of Prohibition and his sermons influenced the adoption of the Eighteenth Amendment in 1919.
