There are now fifteen Browns across the UK, but the origins of this chain lie right here in Brighton where the original Browns, opened in 1973. This premises that was previously a branch of the Halifax Building Society is still a Browns Restaurant today. However, Brown's Bar lies two doors down from the restaurant.
Brown's is approachable, unpretentious, safe and far from edgy. The kind of place my mum would be happy and my girlfriend comfortable. Décor follows a colonial theme with polished dark stained wood and palms standing out against magnolia painted walls.
As chain bars go the drinks list here is commendable, offering a good selection of beers, wines and cocktails laid out in an easy to read menu with tasting notes and explanations. Cocktails are made to a good standard by well trained, attentive bar staff.
If you're wondering the Lanes its worth remembering this bar opens for breakfast and serves light snacks, coffees and teas throughout the day.
