Review

West Village neighbourhood bar meets high-end cocktail lounge. The "name references both the records played over a vintage hi-fi setup and the idea that it offers an escape from the digital world in which we live." Analogue is a true cocktail lounge - warmly lit with upbeat jazz tacks and regular live bands.

The bar rightly dominates the room with plush brown leather running down the opposite wall. While the bar stools are the plum seats in the house we like the stools along the window counter which look over the coming and goings of West 8th Street and the bright pink "girls girls girls" sign in the shop opposite. The solid modern looking oak bar counter and back bar shelves suggest a bar where drinks are taken seriously, and indeed cocktails are well executed. The menu consists of 20 signature cocktails, classics are not listed but well-made when requested. We particularly like the Tipping Point (vodka stirred with apple liqueur, aperitivo blanco and Peychaud's bitters with an Absinthe rinse served up) and the spicy Oaxaca Smash (mezcal, chai-infused sweet vermouth, ginger, lime and angostura bitters).

The 'plates and platters' food menu ranges from candied pecans, devils on horseback and spicy Harissa prawns to plates such as classic steak tartare, octopus shrimp and grits to the charcuterie platter.

If you live or work in the West Village then you are lucky to have Analogue on your doorstep. For the rest of us, this is bar worth journeying to.
