About

Housed in a former cinema on Zagreb's Kvaternik Square, Urania Bar combines creative cocktails, speciality coffee and contemporary design. Reimagined by Croatian architecture studio 3LHD, the building retains a connection to its cinematic past, which inspires everything from the cocktail menu to the bar's programme of international collaborations.

Co-owned by Karlo Ferenčak and Marko Markota, Urania is designed to be both a neighbourhood meeting place and a destination for cocktail enthusiasts. During the day, the focus is on speciality coffee, with a rotating selection of Croatian and international roasters, alongside brunch and lighter dishes. As evening approaches, cocktails take centre stage, accompanied by small plates designed for sharing.

The cocktail menu is divided into two chapters inspired by cinema and architecture. The former reinterprets familiar classics through new flavours and storytelling, while the latter takes a more experimental approach, drawing on architectural concepts of form, structure and balance. Under the guidance of head bartender Lovro Brozd, the team places particular emphasis on flavour, consistency and drinkability.

Beyond its regular offering, Urania has become a meeting point for Zagreb's growing cocktail community through its Hospitality Collective initiative. This ongoing series of guest shifts, masterclasses and culinary collaborations has welcomed bartenders and hospitality professionals from some of Europe's most interesting venues, including HIMKOK and Svanen in Oslo, Lucy's Flower Shop in Stockholm, Mœbius in Milan and Amaro Bar in London. The programme also champions Croatian talent, bringing together local bartenders, chefs and coffee specialists.

In October 2026, Urania took this collaborative approach a step further with the inaugural Festival de Urania. Held under the theme 'Hospitality as Culture', the two-day event brought together international bartenders, chefs and coffee professionals for guest shifts, tastings and discussions exploring the role of bars in contemporary culture.

With its distinctive architectural setting, ambitious drinks programme and genuine commitment to bringing hospitality professionals together, Urania is helping put Zagreb more firmly on Europe's cocktail map. Whether dropping in for a carefully prepared coffee or settling down for an evening exploring the signature cocktails, there's a sense that this is a bar with ideas extending well beyond what's in the glass.
