Released in September 2011, this is the first Glenfiddich 'Vatted Vintage Reserve' and was selected by panel of 16 industry experts, including Glenfiddich's Malt Master, Brian Kinsman, who chose this 1974 over other vatted vintage whiskies from 1973, 1974 and 1975.
The panel of 16 assembled to select this vatting was led by Glenfiddich’s Malt Master, Brian Kinsman and included Hans-Henrik Hansen, the owner of the world’s largest collection of Glenfiddich whisky. The panel nosed and tasted three exceptional vatted vintage whiskies dating from 1973, 1974 and 1975 before selecting the 1974 Glenfiddich.
Sampled on 05/03/2012
Clear, golden yellow with bright gold highlights.
Chirpy, apple cider and caramelised pear with custard powder, polished leather and liquorice.
With the merest splash of water is delivered a surprisingly supple, sprightly and fabulously rounded palate with vanilla, oaky leather, fruit and spice all delivered harmoniously with an interest adding pinch of spice and a waft of smoke.
A long lingering continuation of the fabulous palate.
