Light and approachable, Jameson is the world's best-selling Irish whiskey, made from a blend of malted and unmalted barley pot still whisky and column distilled grain whiskey. This Jameson 'standard' expression is aged in casks previously used to age bourbon and oloroso sherry.
The pot still whisky in this blend is triple distilled from an even mixture of Irish barley malted in closed kilns so not influenced by smoke, and unmalted barley. The pot still whiskey used is what the folk at Midleton Distillery refer to as 'MMP' and this is aged 5-6 years in a combination of first-fill bourbon and refill bourbon with some sherry-matured MMP to add a fruity note. The grain whiskey is made from corn and barley and has the code name 'G11'. This is the standard grain whiskey used in most Jameson blends but for Jameson Standard, the G11 is matured in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels (rather than second or third-fill bourbon).
Review and Tasting

Clear, pale golden.
Linseed, leather, corn-on-the-cob and popcorn with subtle lavender and spicy oak.
Mellow, creamy barley and buttery sweetcorn with light cinnamon and nutmeg spice, hints of nutty sherry, vanilla and sweet honey.
Spicy notes emerge in the slightly sweet, lightly spiced buttery popcorn finish.
Jameson produces many expressions but this one, known by Irish Distillers (its maker) as "Jameson Standard" is the best-known. It is also something of a standard-bearer for the Irish whiskey category and despite the huge volumes produced, is consistent in its flavour and approachable character.
