Smokehead is a single malt from Islay, but from which distillery it is sourced is a well-kept secret, although rumours of Lagavulin and Caol Ila abound. What we do know is that it’s sourced and bottled by Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd.

Sampled on 08/09/2013

Appearance:

Clear, pale to mid golden yellow.

Aroma:

Smoky lapsang souchong tea and cereal with coal tar, creosote and ginger spice.

Taste:

Smoky peat, sherry sweetness, creamy cereal and iodine with salty vanilla fudge and cracked black pepper spice.

Aftertaste:

Long lingering smoky and cracked black pepper heat smoothed by vanilla.
