This straight rye whisky(without the 'e') uses a mash-bill of 65% rye, 23% corn and 12% malted barley. It is made to the style originally common in Pennsylvanian rye whiskies.

Rittenhouse Bottled-In-Bond's label features graphic elements from its original post-Prohibition packaging, evoking the Art Deco style of the 1930's, when the brand was first introduced as 'Rittenhouse Square Rye'.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 16/11/2023

Appearance:

Clear, coppery amber with polished gold highlights.

Aroma:

Nutty, old wardrobe oak with varnish, turpentine, banana, faint cherry, vanilla and lanolin.

Taste:

Distinct spicy woody rye with creamy vanilla, ginger spice, cherry and faint dark chocolate. Light rounding oiliness and a floral touch of parma violet.

Aftertaste:

Dry, vanished oak with faint overripe banana and lingering spice.

Overall:

Something of a reference for how rye whiskey should be. Full-bodied and spicy with ginger, cherry, faint dark chocolate a floral touch of parma violet.
