Pincer Vodka is based on grain neutral spirit and flavoured with extracts of Milk Thistle and Wild Elderflower. Launched in December 2006, it is the creation of Jonathan Engels a former architect from Inverurie, Scotland.
The dark purple-black bottle is made using a mould from the now defunct Clyde Forth Company and is printed with white imagery by Glaswegian artist, Faye Ward.
To quote directly from the 2006 press info, "Pincer Vodka, a stylish and luxurious vodka brand which actually prevents hangovers and has virtually no calories. So it's no surprise that hard-partying celebrities like Kate Moss are fans." No surprise at all. It went on to explain that "Tracey Emin had to be surgically removed from her Pincer Cucumber Collins at the Terrance Higgins Cocktail Club" and that "Liz McLarnon insists it's the only spirit she drinks, because of its low calorific content." Well, obviously a brand that appeals to a discerning crowd of drinkers then. (This was a Page of Shame candidate.)
Review and Tasting
Sampled on 21/02/2011
Appearance:
Clear, slight pale straw-yellow hue.
Aroma:
Reminiscent of oxidised tinned pineapple/tinned lychee fruit with clear pasteurised apple juice and floral aromas.
Taste:
Hint of sweetness with a slightly syrupy mouth feel and yet is more aggressive than the nose and that initial sweetness may prepare you for. Elderflower with grassy and honey notes and flavours akin to cooked apple juice.
Aftertaste:
Unappealing finish.
