Skipper is a full-bodied, dark Demmerera molasses-based rum blended from seven rums, made and aged (for at least 3 years in ex-bourbon casks) at Guyana’s Diamond Distillery. Two of the rums used are made using the distillery’s famous wooden stills (the Port Mourant pot and Enmore Coffey stills).
Skipper Rum’s label artwork is practically unchanged since 1930 and depicts ‘The Skipper’ and his ship projecting old school values of cheery fortitude and reliability.
Review and Tasting
Sampled on 25/09/2012
Appearance:
Clear, deep mahogany with burgundy red and gold highlights.
Aroma:
Pungent molasses and burnt fruit cake, raisins, vanilla and mocha coffee.
Taste:
Brawny, bittersweet, slightly burnt palate with crème brûlée, thick molasses, liquorice and hot spice.
Aftertaste:
Lingering molasses, dark berry fruit, woody liquorice and clove spice. A proper Demerara ‘dark’ rum with huge character and attitude.
