Launched May 2012, Bowmore Small Batch Reserve does not carry an age statement but we are told is a blend of malts matured in first and second-fill ex-bourbon casks. Bowmore say this is "a genuine release of limited volume" but do not specify how many bottles.

Review and Tasting

Appearance:

Clear, light golden amber.

Aroma:

Peat smoke, salty sea air, coal dust, pastry, cut grass and vanilla fudge.

Taste:

Cut grass, pastry, cream-of-soda vanilla, desiccated coconut and black pepper with gentle saltiness and violet blossom.

Aftertaste:

Black pepper, vanilla, pastry, violet blossom and light smoke with creamy peppermint. Overall: Plenty of Islay character but relatively light and approachable.
