Difford's Guide

alc./vol: 40%

A 10-year-old Speyside single malt matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and sherry wine seasoned casks.

Speyburn is the only distillery to draw its water from the Granty Burn, a major tributary of the River Spey. Hence the name Speyburn.

Unlike many other distilleries, Speyburn matures its whisky on location in the secluded, tree-lined valley.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 02/10/2023

Appearance:

Clear, bright golden amber.

Aroma:

Fruity (baked apple, orange marmalade and pear drops) with rubbed mint, new leather, toffee, heather, fresh spruce shavings and rolling tobacco.

Taste:

Well-rounded and medium-bodied with pear and apple/cider fruit, toffee, butterscotch, and peaty cinnamon.

Aftertaste:

Mid-length and sweet. Fruity and toasty with cinnamon spice and wisps of smoke.

Overall:

An easy-drinking, good-value malt with attractive toffee, butterscotch and orchard fruit.
