First brewed 1922, this German pilsner from Flensburg enjoys almost cult status to a cartoon screened in Germany during the 1980s and its distinctive swing-top china closure. It is brewed with Magnum and Herkules bittering hops and Spalter Select and Hallertauger Tradition aroma hops. 11.3° Plato
Sampled on 17/06/2012
(bbd 16-Jul-13) Clear, light-golden yellow with lasting thick white head and heavy lacing.
Subdued water biscuit/cracker and grissini grainy nose with grassy hops.
Dry palate with bitter gassy hops and grissini malt.
Faint grapefruit zest emerges in the moderately bitter finish. Cleansing and refreshing but perhaps a tad one-dimensional in its flavour character.
