Launched in 1964, this gins origins are connected to Calvert whiskey which was produced by the Calvert Distillers Company in Relay, Maryland, USA. The Calvert name was in memory of Lord Calvert, the first governor of Maryland.

Calvert Distillers was one of two large distilleries purchased by the Canadian Joseph E. Seagram & Sons Inc. immediately after the repeal of Prohibition in 1933. Seagram’s marketed various whiskies under the Calvert brand name and in 1964 launched Calvert Gin. The brand name was sold to Jim Beam Co in December 1991 along with five other brand names for $375 million.
