Named after Master Brewer, Henry Hobson who wore a traditional ‘coke’ (pronounced cook), best described as the original hardhat worn by manual workers but originally favoured by gamekeepers who wore the hat to protect against being hit on the head by poachers. Hence the bowler-like hat on the label.
This British amber bitter ale (ESB) is brewed using Maris Otter pale ale malt, roasted crystal malt, Hobson’s own yeast and finished with Worcestershire Challenger and Goldings hops.
Sampled on 22/07/2012
(08-May-13) Very slight haze, coppery amber with thin (half finger) of white head which dissipates to a halo leaving spotted lacing.
Blackberry-flavoured boiled sweets and oatmeal with brown sugar, cold tea and faint floral hops.
Well-balanced malt and hops producing a mildly bitter palate with slight nuttiness and orange zest.
Lingering cleansing hop bitterness fades with notes of resiny pine.
