Four Roses Small Batch releases are blended from less than 35 barrels. The 2012 release was blended from 3 of the distillery’s 10 recipes, mainly high rye content bourbons: OBSV at 17 and 11 years old, OBSK at 12 years old and OESK at 12 years old. Just 4,062 bottles were released in September 2012.
Sampled on 04/02/2013
(bottle No. 3713) Clear, coppery amber with polished gold highlights.
Nougat, fudge and honey (centre of a Crunchy bar), maple wood, hot/burnt freshly sawn cedar wood and pipe tobacco with apple juice, cherry, cinnamon and vanilla. Water releases more pipe tobacco.
Full bodied, sweet maple syrup, dry toasted maple wood and cinnamon with cherry fruit, sour zesty citrus, bitter chocolate and light black pepper spice.
Toasty rye, nutmeg and vanilla with menthol and lingering black pepper spice. Fabulous spicy rye influenced bourbon.
