As the name and bird on the label suggests this alcoholic ginger beer contains Famous Grouse Scotch whisky, although this only constitutes 30% of the spirit base, meaning that 70% of the alcohol is neutral spirit.

Other ingredients include: carbonated water, sugar, natural flavourings, citric acid E330, caramel E150, preservatives (sodium benzoate E211 and potassium sorbate E202).

Launched in 2012, originally as Ginger Grouse, the 'Famous' prefix was added with an updated label in June 2015.

Sampled on 21/11/2013

Appearance:

(sample bbe Jul-14) Hazy, pale golden amber with off white foam ring around glass rather than head.

Aroma:

Mild root ginger and ginger biscuit.

Taste:

Light sweetness balances citric acidity with ginger flavour but little ginger bite. Apple and biscuity notes.

Aftertaste:

Mild ginger biscuit finish. Whisky influence is barely discernable.
