Amstel is a pilsner style lager named after the Amstel River, the water of which was used for cooling production at the first Amstel Brewery founded 11 June 1870 in Amsterdam.
The Amstel brand was taken over by its main competitor Heineken International in 1968. In 1982 production moved to Heineken’s Zoeterwoude Brewery.

(sample best before end Dec/2014) Clear, pale golden with thin white head and light lacing.
Lightly grassy with white banquette crust malt and faint citrus zest, apples and pears.
Light bodied, white bread crust and unripe pear with mild earthy grassy hops and a faint note of cigarette tobacco/ash tray.
Mild grassy bitterness.
