Brewed with Centennial and Saaz hops, this golden “has potential crossover appeal for lager fans.” Spitfire Ale was first brewed in 1990 to honour the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, and this Gold Ale extension was launched in 2015 to mark 75 years since the historic air campaign.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 04/01/2016

Appearance:

Clear, coppery golden amber with thin white head but moderate lacing.

Aroma:

White crusty bread malty notes with faint pine and floral hops.

Taste:

Light-bodied with sweet malt and light pine and floral hops.

Aftertaste:

Faint metallic notes emerge in the light finish.

Overall:

As its brewers say, this golden ale “has potential crossover appeal for lager fans.” We say, "shame it’s in a clear bottle and doesn’t have a bit more character."
