Review and Tasting

Sampled on 07/01/2016

Appearance:

(sample BBE May/2017) Clear but virtually opaque, deep brown – almost black, with a retentive beige head and spotted lacing.

Aroma:

Raspberry jam, toasty malt and mocha coffee.

Taste:

Heavily roasted barley with notes of charcoal, sweet raspberry jam and light grassy hops.

Aftertaste:

More raspberry jam balanced by dry charcoal-like notes and mild hop bitterness.

Overall:

Take a heavy traditional porter and add some fresh raspberry. The result is lighter and obviously fruity but retains its balance rather than becoming sweet and syrupy.
