Pirate's Grog No.13 Rum

Difford's Guide

alc./vol: 40%

Proof: 80°

Vintage: Non-vintage

Aged: No age statement

A blend of five year old central American rums aged 13 years in American oak barrels. Pirate’s Grog No.13 was released in December 2015 with just 777 crock bottles, each presented in a tube.

Pirate’s Grog rums are blended and bottled in the UK but originated in Roatán, a small Caribbean island situated 60km off the coast of Honduras. The name references the period when pirates and buccaneers used the island as a harbour and shelter.

In January 2016, we asked Gareth Noble at Pirate's Rum to confirm the rums are distilled on Roatán, Honduras and confirm the name of the distillery as we were not aware of a distillery on Roatán or indeed Honduras - something the brand's press release suggested.

Gareth replied, "Pirate's Grog started on Roatan in 2011 when the founder, Robert decided to produce a rum in Honduras to compete with other popular Central American rums. We don't have our own distillery (yet... that's the dream ;-)), instead Robert created a blend of rums from neighbouring distilleries. The single cask used for the No.13 is a Central American rum that Robert has been ageing. We decided to launch it after 13 years as it tastes amazing and it was a fitting number to go with our brand."
