Named after Reverend Stiggins in Charles Dickens' Pickwick Papers, whose favourite drink was Mrs Weller's pineapple rum. Stiggins' Fancy was created by cellar master Alexandre Gabriel and drinks historian David Wondrich, originally as a thank-you to CAPs at Tales 2015.

Stiggins' Fancy is made by infusing ripe Queen Victoria pineapples in Planteray Original Dark Rum for three months. This is combined with a spirit made by infusing pineapple rind (where the fruit's essential oils are mainly found) into Planteray 3 Star Rum, then distilling the infusion. The blend is then aged in oak casks for three months prior to bottling.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 29/07/2016

Appearance:

Clear, deep burnished coppery amber.

Aroma:

Dried pineapple, grilled peaches, overripe banana, Tizer and demerara sugar with clove, cinnamon and black pepper spice.

Taste:

Slightly sweet. Grilled pineapple, flambéed peach, tangerine and scorched demerara sugar with clove, cinnamon and black pepper spice.

Aftertaste:

Caramel, grilled pineapple and cinnamon with lingering zesty orange.

Overall:

Perhaps best described as pineapple influenced rather than pineapple flavoured, this is indeed a fruity rum with notes of grilled pineapple, flambéed peach, tangerine and demerara sugar with clove, cinnamon and black pepper spice.
