Described as being “a traditional Belgian-style saison with a California twist”. Brewed with two-row barley, red wheat, Belgian and toasted wheat malts, along with Chinook and Nelson Sauvin hops, That Californian influence comes in the form of added lemongrass, lemon peel and ginger.

First brewed in 2014 and available February to April each year.

Review and Tasting


Sampled on 01/12/2016

Appearance:

(sample bottle best before and Feb/17) Slight haze, golden-orange amber with a thin, quickly diminishing off white head and moderate lacing.

Aroma:

Bready toasty malt, clove, candied ginger, lemongrass and white pepper. Light yeast.

Taste:

White pepper and clove spice. Yeasty brown bread. Low carbonation.

Aftertaste:

More white pepper, clove and brown bread. Lemongrass notes emerge.

Overall:

This Spring Ale is best summed up as being yeasty brown bread enlivened with white pepper and clove spice.
