Ian Puddick purchased a run-down property in London’s Palmers Green to later discover the bakery which had occupied the premises was also an illicit gin distillery. He restored the building and set about once again making gin there – this time legally. Appropriately, his gin is called Old Bakery Gin

It is rumoured that the original illicit gin recipe included stinging nettle leaves, but varies attempts to incorporate these into the new recipe resulted in a poor tasting gin so they were omitted from the final recipe.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 11/09/2017

Appearance:

(sample bottle vintage 2017) Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Fresh bright citrusy aromas sit harmoniously with piney juniper with supporting peppery spice.

Taste:

Faintly sweet zesty lemony citrus and dry piney juniper with woody nutty notes and black pepper spice. Faint candied ginger.

Aftertaste:

Piney juniper is more predominant in the dry lightly black pepper spiced finish with faint candied ginger.

Overall:

A classically styled London Dry Gin with pronounced citrus.
