Named after HMS Princessa, a Spanish vessel captured by the British in 1780 at the battle of Cape St. Vincent and became part of the British fleet. A 70 gun ship, it was captained by Charles Knatchbull with Rear Admiral Francis Samuel Drake aboard and was one of the first ships to engage the French.
