Rutte’s Master Distiller, Myriam Hendrickx, has briantly revived a “Sleedoorn Likeur” or sloe berry liqueur recipe first created in the early 1970s by John Rutte.
The original recipe was made “with gin and fresh berries that he picked himself in the Biesbosch”, the national park close to the Rutte Distillery in Dordrecht and in keeping with his recipe, this modern-day reincarnation uses a touch of traditional malt wine to add to its complexity.
Sampled on 17/08/2018
Clear, tawny red.
Almonds, marzipan, soft leather, sloe berry fruit and pine.
Piney juniper notes shine with beautifully balanced tart berry fruit and rich jammy sweetness. Light cleansing spice and bitter almond nuttiness.
Warming spiced pine and rich berry fruit.
Gin plays a larger role in this superbly balanced liqueur that in many other lesser sloe gins. Piney juniper and jammy fruit with underlying nut and spice complexity.
