Described as "a white rum with an Indonesian heart" Nusa Caña is the creation of ex-Diageo execs Marc Rodrigues, Joe Milner, and Andy Gaunt, along with bartender Sam Jeveons. Nusa Caña comprises Caribbean rums blended with arrack distilled on Java.
The arrack is made by fermenting sugar cane molasses with yeast grown on Javanese red rice, this is double distilled in stainless steel pot stills and then aged in teak casks.
Sampled on 29/01/2019
Crystal clear.
Pungent, raw sugar can juice with fermented funkiness, hints of toffee, overripe banana and peach. Subtle clove and light white pepper spice.
Plenty of black and white pepper spice, and funk, with arrack notes dominating. Fruity notes found on the nose are somewhat overpowered but distinct peachy notes carry through.
Nutmeg, cinnamon, clove and peppery spice with fruity esters.
With is powerful arrack flavours, this very characterful rum is perhaps best suited to use in punches. Beware the low 37.5% alc./vol. of this commercial strength bottling.
