Centerba is Italian for "one hundred herbs", a reference to the recipe Italian pharmacist, Beniamino Toro, used when he first formulated this elixir in 1817.

A maceration of herbs collected in the Abruzzo mountains with "oriental spices". This was originally sold as a medicine, reflected in it's 70% alcohol strength. The lower strength and sweetened "Potabile" Centerba Esprit version is far more approachable and recommended as a liqueur.
