Named after James Arthur Rackham, who selected the ten casks that comprise this Batch No.1 bottling released in June 2024.

This high-rye (95% rye and 5% malted barley) Tennessee whiskey was matured for 3 years and 6 months in ten lightly toasted new American oak barrels, then double mellowed through maple charcoal before bottling at cask strength in December 2023.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 08/06/2024

Appearance:

Clear, golden amber.

Aroma:

Toasty oak, toasted almond, pencil shavings and rye bread. A splash of water reveals vanilla, buttery popcorn, matchbox lighting strip and bloody steak-like aromas.

Taste:

Toasty dry oak, barbeque charcoal, and a metallic note with light clove, cinnamon, and peppery spice.

Aftertaste:

Baking spices and toasty notes with lingering metallic tobacco.

Overall:

Given its generous strength, adding a splash of water is tempting, but go easy; too much dilution exposes this whiskey's dry, woody side. It may sound like sacrilige for such a limited-release bottling, but Jimmy Rack is great with cola on the rocks.
