Scaldis Noël is a strong golden ale barley wine made in Belgium. It’s tradition there for breweries to make a stronger, bolder beer for their loyal customers at Christmas time and this is Dubuisson’s version. Hop flowers are placed in the vats (dry hopped) where the beer rests for four to six weeks.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 24/12/2012

Appearance:

Deep amber with long lasting thick beige head and heavy lacing.

Aroma:

Toffee and raison fruit – Christmas pudding.

Taste:

Creamy mouth feel, burnt caramel and sweet dried fruit camouflages the very high alcohol strength. Restrained Christmas spice.

Aftertaste:

Caramel and toffee with spicy hops.

Overall:

Christmas calls for a strong ale – this is very strong but also incredibly approachable.
