A blend from rums distilled from fermented molasses at the Angostura Distillery in Trinidad and aged for up to 8 years in American oak ex-bourbon casks. Formulated to resemble the original Fernandes 1919 rum.
In 1932, a fire destroyed the Trinadad & Tobago Government Rum Bond. Joseph Bento Fernandes, a master blender and owner of Fernandes Distillery, shrewdly bought the casks that survived the fire. When he sampled the casks he found a number marked ‘1919’ due to being casked that year were particularly good. He created a new blend of rum based on these casks. The new blend proved very popular and when Trinidadian troops volunteered to serve in World War II, Fernandes sent a bottle of his 1919 to each of the troops. Some years later Joseph sold this brand, along with his distillery, to Angostura who have created this 8 year old blend in the style of Fernandes original 1919.
