A vatted malt Scotch whisky blended from 14 Highland and Islay single malt distilleries and aged in American oak ex-bourbon barrels.

Four times Prime Minister, William Gladstone is depicted on the label posing with one of his many axes with which he indulged his hobby of chopping down trees on his friend's estates. He's also noted for his signing the spirits act of 1860 which allowed for the blending of Scotch for the first time.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 03/02/2022

Appearance:

Clear, golden amber.

Aroma:

Smoky toasty oak, malty cereal, vanilla, honeyed pear and caramel.

Taste:

Earthy, smoky, sweet pear drop malt with heather, toasty oak and delicate salanity.

Aftertaste:

Smoky spiced malty finish.

Overall:

Very generously flavoured with smoky, sweet pear drop malt and enlivening spice. Just a tad too much upfront generosity without depth of character.
