Originally labelled as 'Toffee Vodka', at 29.9% abv, Thunder does not qualify as a vodka in the E.U. so a change of descriptor now says this liqueur is 'Toffee+Vodka Spirit Drink'. However, we note that the brand's website, thundervodka.com, describes it as "Toffee Vodka at its best...". Tut tut!

As far as we can ascertain, Thunder Toffee is based on neutral spirit blended with toffee syrup and water.

Review and Tasting

Appearance:

Clear, golden amber.

Aroma:

Clean caramel with butterscotch, salt, clotted cream fudge and praline.

Taste:

Sweet but far from cloying with an aggressive bite. The one-dimensional burnt caramel flavour is reminiscent of the inside of a Cadbury Crunchie bar.

Aftertaste:

Burnt toffee and caramel with burnt butter. This strongly flavoured bitter-sweet liqueur has mass market appeal.
