Launched on 6th June 2011, the first in a series of blended whiskies from Compass Box. The folk at Compass Box tell us that Great King Street is blended using "a high proportion of malt whisky, truly excellent quality grain whiskies, and the careful use of new French oak aging for added complexity.
The name and label are inspired by Compass Box's registered Scotland office address, 24 Great King Street, Edinburgh.
In keeping with Glaser's maverick approach the Artist's Blend is also notable for being a blended Scotch available exclusively in a 50cl format. Bottled at a natural colour and without chill-filtering.
Sampled on 09/09/2011
Clear, pale golden.
A nose of baked pear and apple pie with a crumbly topping dusted with delicate cinnamon spice.
Buttery, fruity, surprisingly spicy, toasty oak palate with creamy vanilla and generous malty notes.
Medium length, spicy, toasted finish.
