Made with a mashbill of 60 per cent corn, 30 per cent rye, and 10 per cent malted barley, this 6-10-year-old bourbon is aged in barrels with a very light No.1 char.
The Jefferson's brand name pays homage to the third President of the United States: Thomas Jefferson, instrumental in America's Independence in 1783 and the man credited with writing the Declaration of Independence. It seems appropriate that it was Jefferson himself who was at the heart of the Whiskey Rebellion in 1791, during which he repealed the tax on whiskey and turned Americans from rye to bourbon.
Sampled on 08/08/2014
(sample batch 16, bot No. 1364) Clear, golden amber.
Vanillered and nutty with a whiff of smoky, buttery oak and a slight peachy aroma.
As far as bourbons go, the 41.2% alc./vol. is comparatively low but the oaky palate is bigger, drier and more robust than the nose might suggest. But this is a mellow whiskey with vanilla, maple syrup and sweet corn.
Toasty,buttery oak and popcorn finish.
