Fable has it that on 11 January 1750, at the port of Bordeaux, Marie Brizard, then aged 36 discovered Thomas, a West Indian sailor from the ship Intrépide who was lying on the ground strick with fever. She took him in and nursed him. In gratitude he gave her the recipe to this aniseed liqueur. Read more
