Produced until the mid-noughties at Distillerie Tuoni & Canepa in Tuscany, Poncino is an anise-based coffee liqueur with chocolate and caramel. In the Tuscany region it is traditionally drunk as a caffè corretto with espresso, a combination known as a ‘Ponch’.

Appearance:

Clear, dark reddy brown with burnished copper and burgundy highlights.

Aroma:

Espresso-mocha coffee, star anise and cola.

Taste:

Sweetness balanced by peppery alcohol punch (it’s 47% alc./vol.) with liquorice, anise, espresso coffee and dark chocolate.

Aftertaste:

Star anise, liquorice and espresso. Fades with mocha coffee and anise.
