Brewed in the style of a Russian imperial stout as an annual vintage release, Dark Star Imperial is brewed using a high proportion of roasted barley and hops. This style of beer was originally brewed in London in the 18th century to export to Russia to the court of Catherine the Great.

Appearance:

(2011 Vintage) Ebony black and virtually opaque with thin ring of beige foam for a head.

Aroma:

Pungent and spirity with roasted malt, tar, molasses, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, charred prunes and liquorice.

Taste:

Spirity, charred toast, burnt nuts and tar with chocolate, espresso coffee and biter liquorice.

Aftertaste:

Long with tar, black rubber, cacao and lingering black pepper spirit notes with spruce needle hops.
