In January 2012, Stella Artois’ owner, AB InBev, reduced the UK alcohol volume of Stella Artois, Budweiser and Becks from 5% to 4.8% in order to save tens of millions of pounds and offset duty increases. The “reassuringly expensive” advertising strapline no longer seems so apt.

Brewed for malted barley, maize and hops 6 to 11 days and made with Bohemian Saas hops, Stella Artois Larger is was originally made in Belgium only but is now brewed in many countries including the UK, Brazil and Australia. The company has tax receipts going back to the 1300’s when it was Leuven’s Den Horen Brewery but when Sebastianus Artois became master brewer he gave it his name, becoming Stella Artois in the 1717.
