Salvatore Calabrese is one of London’s best-known bartenders but he grew up on Italy’s beautiful Amalfi Coast, famous for its lemons and limoncello liqueur. This liqueur, made with “mid-season Amalfi lemons” is inspired by his love of cognac and the homemade lemon liqueurs he grew up with.

First released in September 2012.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 25/10/2012

Appearance:

Cloudy, pale dirty yellow. Don't be put off by the scum-line that can form inside the bottle's neck, this is a sign of the flavoursome oils which have not been filtered out.

Aroma:

Pungent zesty lemon, lemon meringue pie filling and green wood.

Taste:

Full-flavoured with powerful lemon zest, biting citric acidity and faint cognac notes – though it is not obvious that this liqueur is based on cognac. Despite the zesty acidity there is a creamy softness to the mouth feel.

Aftertaste:

Long tangy lemon zesty finish.

Overall:

Tart and complex with balancing richness rather than sugary sweetness. Not to be confused with sweeter limoncellos, but Liqueur di Limone is great served ice-cold after a meal.
