Shellback Spiced is based on rum produced from molasses at the West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados using both pot and column distillation. The blend of rums are aged for 12 months in ex-bourbon barrels and then infused with 12 different spices including: cassia, cinnamon, ginger, clove and nutmeg

Shellback is a term for sailors who had crossed the equator, meaning they were capable of handling long and rough sea journeys. Its makers say Shellback Rum “salutes those with the spirit of discovery” and according the bottom of each bottle features the embossed face of a compass.

Lunched in 2012.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 28/04/2013

Appearance:

Clear, golden amber.

Aroma:

Tightly integrated mixed spice with toasty cedar wood and nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla most obvious.

Taste:

Medium-bodied, vanilla and liquorice sweetness with dry cinnamon spiced oak. Very well balanced with no one spice dominating. Pleasing rum notes are also allowed to shine through the mixed spices.

Aftertaste:

Dry, long woody vanilla finish with delicate spice.
