Released April 2013 as the last of the Connoisseurs 2012 Vintage. Sharp’s head brewer, Stuart Howe, is apparently not a big fan of stout so set out to brew one which he and other drinkers would enjoy. The result being this bottle-conditioned stout ‘dry hopped’ with Fazenda Das Almas coffee beans.
Stuart used a yeast strain from the Trappist brewery at the Rochefort abbey in Belgium to give the stout a fruity note in addition to Centennial and Perle hops with Pale Ale malt, Cara malt, Crystal malt and roasted barley.
Sampled on 22/06/2013
(sample Vintage 2012, best before 10-Apr-17) Clear, deep (almost opaque) brown with tan head which disappears without trace.
Heavy toasted malt, blackberries, treacle, burnt Christmas pudding and coffee.
Sweet burnt caramel and burnt toast with bitter chocolaty coffee beans.
Long lingering burnt toast, mocha espresso, caramel and dried fruit.
