Launched in late 2009, this tongue-in-cheek named blended (vatted) malt with its comic label contains some very serious Islay malts from Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and even some Port Ellen - now long closed. We are told it also contains two further Islay malts but these are not disclosed.

Big Peat is bottled without chill filtration.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 29/03/2011

Appearance:

Light straw yellow with slight haze and visible precipitation.

Aroma:

Iodine, salty seaweed with tar, creosote, chimney soot, hard liquorice and damp bonfire aromas.

Taste:

Salty, iodine with cabbage vegetable notes quickly turns to sooty tar with creosote emerging towards the long sooty finish.

Aftertaste:

Peat is indeed a big lad with an even bigger palate but he has a gentle side.
