Gaz, formerly Gary Regan is a USA cocktail authority famous for his The Joy of Mixology book and generally being a much loved character in cocktail circles. He launched his bitters, which are made by the Sazerac Company in 2005.

The recipe is based on one from Charles Baker's 1930s book, The Gentleman's Companion and the 'No. 6' is a reference to the number of prototype recipes Gary went through before arriving at the final formula.
