No.3 refers to the address in St James' Street, London, the home of wine and spirit merchants, Berry Bros. & Rudd since 1698. The inspiration for the key on the bottle came when the packaging designers were rummaging through the shop and found the key to The Parlour, one of the shop's oldest rooms.

What may at first glance appear to be a most English of gins is actually made in one of Holland's oldest distilleries. No.3 is rather appropriately flavoured with three fruits and three spices. These are traditionally steeped and distilled in copper pot stills. The six botanicals used are: Italian juniper berries, sweet Spanish orange peel, grapefruit peel, angelica root, Moroccan coriander seeds and cardamom pods.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 12/02/2020

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Piny juniper and nutty balsa wood with grapefruit and orange zest citrus freshness. Faint green cardamom spice.

Taste:

Zingy and clean. Pine-fresh juniper, grapefruit and orange oil freshness, bursts of spice (coriander, cardamom and black pepper).

Aftertaste:

Nutty, damp woody angelica notes emerge with more citrusy juniper and enlivening spice.

Overall:

A traditional piney juniper forward London Dry Gin but with the flavour dials turned up - particularly zesty citrus and earthy spice. Even the alc./vol. is cranked up. This concentration of flavour means a tad less goes as far.
