“Inspired by traditional bush teas of the Caribbean”, Bushtea Spiced Rum is made and bottled in Cambridgeshire, England using molasses imported from the Caribbean which are fermented for seven days before being distilled in a 200 litre copper pot still.

The resulting rum is lightly aged for weeks rather than years in English oak barrels before being infused with botanicals such as root ginger and citrus zest.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 17/08/2015

Appearance:

Clear, golden amber.

Aroma:

Fruity estery rum spirit, candied ginger, ripe peach, overripe banana, vanilla, oak and orange zest.

Taste:

Citrusy and spicy with vanilla, brawny cinnamon and honeyed sweetness. Underlying overripe banana estery fruity notes and dry oak tannins add complexity and structure.

Aftertaste:

Honey, vanilla and citrus with lingering bitter tannins and punchy cinnamon spice.

Overall:

An English distilled spiced rum is something to applaud, especially when so simply but beautifully presented and boasting a premium alcohol strength. As for the flavour, some will appreciate the combination of fruity esters and spice while others, including the mass market of spiced rum drinkers may find challenging.
