This cask strength straight rye whiskey is named after Thomas H. Handy, the New Orleans bartender who first used rye whiskey to make the Sazerac Cocktail. Released as an annual limited edition as part of Buffalo Trace’s Antique Collection.

First introduced in 2000, this uncut and unfiltered straight rye is bottled from a batch of around 40 barrels aged for around six to eight years. The batch size, age and bottling strength (alc./vol.) varies by annual release.

Appearance:

(2014 release) Clear, deep coppery amber.

Aroma:

Blackened fruitcake, biscuit, toasted coconut, clove and cinnamon with hazelnut.

Taste:

Rich fruity moist fruitcake, cinnamon and black pepper spice.

Aftertaste:

Maple syrup, fruitcake, cinnamon and black pepper spice.

Overall:

Generous and rich with pronounced fruitcake flavours, cinnamon and black pepper spice.
