Tres Generaciones (literally ‘three generations’) is a tribute to the three generations of grandfather, father and son to run the Sauza distillery: Don Cenobio Sauza, Don Eladio Sauza and Don Francisco Javier Sauza, the latter also being responsible for creating Tres Generaciones.

All variants in the Tres Generaciones range are triple distilled, 100% agave tequilas. In Mexico and the U.S. these are sold at 40% abv but sadly in the UK these are only marketed at 38% abv - surely not much of a premium statement, and downright rude with a retail price that breaks the £40 mark. I don’t think it is unfair to say that these are tequilas are made using industrial rather than artisan processes, and despite the rather attractive hand-painted and labeled bottles, which look like metal-clad flagons though are actually painted, are somewhat ambitiously priced.

Review and Tasting

Sampled before 1st May 2011

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Subdued nose with hints of eucalyptus.

Taste:

Spicy with white pepper notes which seeming build through the palate.

Aftertaste:

Clean and disappointingly light in agave character. Reminiscent of a pepper infused vodka.
