Staibano Amalfi Limoncello

Difford's Guide

alc./vol: 25%

Proof: 50°

Vintage: Non-vintage

Aged: Unaged

Made on the Amalfi Coast to Don Vincenzo Staibano's 1932 recipe by his great-grandson using only IGP certified Amalfi lemons (but due to bottling outside of Amalfi, this is not a PGI limoncello).

Don Vincenzo Staibano was a charismatic playboy and in Amalfi, he was known as "Il Gaga". As well to tending to his lemon groves, in the 1930s he started to create liqueurs and spirits which during the 1950s boom he served at lavish parties held in his lemon groves on the Amalfi Coast.

After years of excessive fun and gambling, Don Vincenzo's lemon groves sadly became decrepit and his liqueur production came to an end.

Some years later, his great-grandson, Cesco Amodio, revived Don Vincenzo's recipes and brought Staibano liqueurs back into production to the Amalfi coast.
