Established in 1961, the distillery lies just outside the town of Alness but takes its name from the nearby town, which in turn is named after an 18th-century laird, Sir William Gordon. The Distillery occupies an 80-acre site on the northern shore of the Cromarty Firth in the northeast Highlands

Review and Tasting

Appearance:

Clear, dark golden amber.

Aroma:

Corn, empty plastic box-like aromas, very lightly smoked tinned pineapple, vanilla nose with a touch of dried coconut.

Taste:

Slight vegetal notes to a lightly smoked, nubuck leather, oaky palate with overripe pineapple and zesty lemon. Oaky tannins either detract or balance the fruity notes depending on your tastes. Personally I'd love to have seen this taken out of cask sooner.

Aftertaste:

Long dried fruit / boiled sweet finish with light spice and oak tannins.
